Bruno Catalano

Les Voyageurs, by French artist Bruno Catalano, in Marseilles, France is a sculpture meant to evoke memories and parts of themselves that every traveler inevitably leaves behind when they leave home for a new shore.

Located in Marseille, France – Frances says “‘I have travelled a lot and I left Morocco when I was 12 years old. I felt that a part of me was gone and will never come back.

‘From years of being a sailor, I was always leaving different countries and places each time and it’s a process that we all go through.”

Bruno Catalano is a sculptor born in 1960 in Khouribga, Morocco, a town near Casablanca. Despite a difficult schooling, Catalano spend ten beautiful years in a metis and post-colonialist environnement with his family.

They moved to France in 1970. Thrilled but frightened, Catalano and his family adpated themselves very quickly to a new life.

The artist opened his studio in 1985 and began to create his very first clay figurines at that time. He stayed there until 1990 and opened a second studio in 2000. He also took part to several collective exhibitions in local fairs.

En 2001, Bruno Catalano received a request to produce a sculpture for Marseille 5th district: a bust of Yves Montand destined to the square dedicated to the comedian singer, place Jean Jaures.
The same year, Bruno Catalano took part in several exhibitions, including SIAC Marseille and Bastille Contemporary art fair. Many local galleries also got interested in his work.

scenes of travelers, strolling the empty spirit but transmitting a vibration, an unconscious sound. Bruno Catalano tries with this concept to address the men of today whatever their age, driven by this need of escape, persuaded to find elsewhere the happiness that they have not managed to achieve.

Many are those who will recognize themselves in the bronze’s reflections. But insn’t that the successfuly alchemy of Art ?
